Uses for Rose Water

Rosewater is one of the most versatile beauty products you can buy. Maria Barry, medical aesthetician at Union Square Laser Dermatology in New York City says that rosewater is an excellent natural ingredient with many skin-enhancing benefits. It can refresh, hydrate, cleanse and soothe your skin. Barry also notes that the benefits of rosewater don’t stop at your hair. He believes that adding rosewater to one’s shampoo can lead to soft and refreshed hair. Rosewater is an excellent ingredient in skincare, but you can do so much with this beauty powerhouse on its own. Find out some of the greatest uses for rose water below.

Toner
A toner after cleansing can sweep away any makeup, oil, dirt and debris, but toners can also remove necessary moisture from your skin. Dry and sensitive skin types will love that rosewater adds an additional bit of cleansing power and refreshment to the skin without removing any moisture. Oily or acne-prone skin also benefits from using rose water as a toner. “I most commonly recommend products with rosewater or rosehip oil for acne and rosacea-prone patients, because it reduces bacteria on skin, decreases inflammation and simultaneously hydrates and soothes the skin,” says Jessica Weise, MD, dermatologist at New York City’s New York Dermatology Group. Simply saturate a cotton pad with rose water and swipe over your face after cleansing to see redness and irritation diminish.

Setting Spray
Misting rosewater over your makeup is a great way to set your makeup and give you a radiant, glowing finish. Setting sprays can be a bit drying on the face, but rosewater will keep your makeup looking fresh while your face remains hydrated which is particularly beneficial if you suffer from dry or sensitive skin. If you find that you were a bit heavy-handed with your makeup, spritzing rosewater over your face can help to add a bit of moisture and smooth out areas where makeup looks too heavy. To keep your makeup looking fresh and gorgeous all day, fill a small spray bottle with rosewater and keep it in your purse for a quick makeup refresher.

Treatment After Shaving
Even without sensitive skin, shaving can seriously irritate your skin leaving it red, bumpy and uncomfortable. To combat these undesired effects of shaving, apply rosewater after you shave to instantly soothe and calm irritated skin. “Rosewater’s benefits stem from natural anti-inflammatory properties, which make it ideal for topical application to calm red, irritated skin conditions,” notes Rachel Nazarian, MD, dermatologist with Schweiger Dermatology in New York City.

Hair Treatment
Rosewater is an incredible multi-tasker and your skin isn’t the sole beneficiary of the amazing powers of rosewater. Dry, dull hair can occur at any time, but it is definitely a concern during the cold weather months since the lack of moisture in the air wreaks havoc on your hair. There are two easy ways to use rosewater as a hair treatment: use it as your final rinse in the shower or add a bit to your shampoo. After shampooing, use rosewater as a hair rinse for intense conditioning or add a bit of rosewater to your shampoo before applying. Using rosewater on your hair results in soft, smooth and shiny hair and as a bonus, your hair will be left smelling fantastic.

Rosewater is a natural and gentle skincare ingredient that can be used for a number of beauty treatments and purposes. One of the greatest aspects of rosewater is how available it is and you can find rosewater at any price point.
